Overcoming the World

There is much in the world that comes against us.  Many circumstances seem to say to us that we may be defeated.  Remember what Jesus said, “In the world you shall have tribulation but be of good cheer for I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)  What does Jesus bring to our lives that tackles defeat and turns it into victory?

We get a very clear answer to our question in 1 John 5:4.  “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world.  And this is the victory that has overcome the world-our faith.  Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.”  Everything that is born of God overcomes the world.  Are you born of God?  If so, then this scripture applies to your life!  Your faith can overcome all the problems of life no matter how big they may seem.

Sometimes our problems loom before us like large mountains.  Listen to what Jesus said about them in Mark 11:23, “For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, Be removed and be cast into the sea, and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will come to pass, he will have whatsoever he says.” This is specifically referring to the times when problems seem so large.  What are we to do?  Jesus said speak to those problems and tell them to leave.  Jesus gives us the ability to exercise faith so that we can turn defeat into victory! Faith is the victory!

Where does this victorious faith come from? Romans 10:17 tells us, “So then faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God”.  We must hear what the Word says to us about our mountain.  In many instances this is the last place we look for the answer, but we need to go there first.  The Word will impart to us the faith we need to move the mountain or, in other words, to overcome it.  The basis of our victory is what God’s Word says about our problem. Faith in God’s Word opens the door to the realm where God can move in our lives.  Hebrews 4:16 says, “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” When we find these answers, we must speak them to our mountains in order for them to be removed.

Hebrews 11 is a testimony to the victories that can be won in faith through belief in God’s Word.  Faith subdued kingdoms, worked righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness people were made strong, became valiant in battle, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.  Women received their dead raised to life and others endured physical suffering because of the testimony of faith.  Is there a mountain that you face today? Is there a problem too big for God?  Through faith in God’s Word and your confession, God can turn it around for you.  He’ll move that mountain.

The Bible gives us God’s word on every aspect of life.  The scriptures will impart faith into your heart.  It is faith that defeats the problems of life.  Don’t wait! Get in the Word now!
